Learn what your college campus has to offer you—it’s all there for your benefit.

“Take advantage of free resources? Well, duh.”

–You, probably, after seeing this post’s title and description

Yeah, it seems like the obvious thing to do. But the fact of the matter is that many students have no idea what tools are available to them while they’re in college. Your hefty college bill supports some pretty cool things that schools provide, so make the most of what you’re paying for and look into those resources.

Don’t underestimate the library

It’s not just full of textbooks and journal articles. Many college libraries have an exclusive database of videos and films that only their students and educators have access to—for free. Search up whatever suits your fancy, and stream it like it’s Netflix.

Your library may also have a free tech rental service for students. Looking for a computer, tablet, or Kindle? Just ask your library for them. Need to borrow a camera or microphone for an assignment? Check them out like they’re books. Some libraries even offer game consoles and virtual reality equipment.

You’re missing out

It’s not just the library that students aren’t taking advantage of. Counseling, wellness and recreation, legal services, food pantries, 3D printers, greenhouse facilities, music practice rooms and studios, crafting centers, IT services, financial advice… These are only a small handful of resources that tons of students forget are offered to them by their college.

Name it, and they’ve got it. See if your school offers anything related to your interests that could be of service to you. You might be surprised at what you find.

Meanwhile, I’ll be taking my student discount on Amazon Prime and Spotify…
